Curator and consultant for exhibitions of contemporary art, based in Barcelona. I am an online and offline art dealer who also organises exhibitions in private and public spaces.

 

SOLO CURATORIAL PROJECTS

 

1996-97. Se Alquila (To Let).. 3 group exhibitions over 3 consecutive years, independently organised in spaces on sale or for the rental which were given over by their owners for the events. Ephemeral exhibitions 3 – 5 days long with participation by more than 80 artists.

 

1998-99. Nueve Planetas (Nine Planets). The cycle of 9 exhibitions. Artists: Luis Bisbe, Alejandro Cánovas, Martí Cormand, Carmen Hierro, Innothna, Mireya Masó, Julia Montilla, Antonio Ortega, Francesc Ruiz. La Capella. Institut de Cultura, Barcelona.

 

1998-99.Intermix, arts en directe (Intermix, Live Arts) A cycle of 7 interventions fusing different disciplines in a single common experience. Artists: PorlaKara Productions, Xavela Vargas, Tres, Erich Weiss, Konic Thtr and others. Centre de Cultura Contemporània, Barcelona.

 

2008. Reflejos de la India contemporánea (Reflections of Contemporary India). Exhibition of works by N.S. Harsha, Sheela Gowda, Amar Kanwar and Anup Mathew Thomas, Madrid, including a documentary on each of the artists’ work process made by myself during my stay in India. La Casa Encendida, Madrid.

 

2008. Videomix India. 2 2 programmes of video art from India. La Casa Encendida, Madrid.

 

2009. Fragmentos de un país video arte de India (Fragments of a Country: Indian Video Art). 2 programmes. Caixaforum Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Tarragona.

 

CO-CURATORIAL PROJECTS

 

1995-97. Otro mirar. Arte Contemporáneo Argentino (Another Way of Looking. Contemporary Argentinian Art)curated with María Helguera. A panoramic view of socially and politically committed Argentinian artists including: Antonio Berni, Jorge de la Vega, Luis Felipe Noé, Juan Carlos Distéfano, Víctor Grippo, Pablo Suárez, Luis Fernando Benedit, Norberto Gómez, Roberto Elía, Marcia Schvartz, Adriana Lestido y Marcos López. Centre d’Art Santa Mònica, Barcelona, y Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de Buenos Aires.

 

2003. 25hrsCo-curatorship with Manuel Saiz and Jorge Bravo. 25-hour continual screening of 300 international video art pieces made between 1993 and 2003.. Raval sports centre, Barcelona.

 

2009-10. Yo y el otro. (I and the Other. Portraits in Contemporary Indian Photography), curated with Devika

VIDEO

 

1979-76. Video Nou, pioneering 9-member collective. Their independent, experimental activist recordings captured the cultural and socio-political world of the Spanish transition and were screened in 2005 as part of the exhibition (Disagreements. On art, politics and the public sphere in Spain).Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona. The group’s work is held in the collections of the MACBA, Barcelona and Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid

PROFESSIONAL TRAJECTORY

 

1976-79. Member of Video Nou, a pioneering Spanish video art collective.

 

1980-84. Lived in the US, Peru, Bolivia and India, doing photojournalism for magazine Interviú with Pedro Costa.

 

1986-93. Worked with Marisa Diez de la Fuente at Galería Ciento, a highly significant cultural space in Barcelona in the 70s and 80s

 

2002. Set up TheVideoArtFoundation, with Manuel Saiz and Jorge Bravo. Focused on organising 25hrsMuestra Internacional de Video Arte.. International open call to video artists, following which we selected and mounted 300 video art pieces from 1993 – 2003 for screening.
