Toni Garreta and Santi Nadal’s work exposes the strength of their sexual
otherness in dialogue with the sacred. Their images are set against a veiled
nature that easily takes us to the dark fallacy that surrounds and represses
sexed bodies.
The irruption of the profane into the divine is the way the artists have found to
appropriate and update the beauty of their ancestral myths and subvert the
prevailing order. This is what makes their work captivating to the eye and at the
same time uncomfortable.
If the sacred is a mirror of the cosmos, their art is the reflection of the body in
that very same moving cosmos. A new otherness bursts into the sacred and
obscenely blurs the divine designs.
Their art is irreverent and courageous. By exhibiting it, they expose themselves,
and by exposing themselves they reveal to us a new possible order which
subverts sexuality and demystifies the sacred.
