Tres

Multidisciplinary artist focused on research and experimentation with silence.
Silent cocktails, blackouts, clandestine actions, videos, exhibitions and
installations… are some of the many ways in which Tres has explored the
concept of silence and its subversive potential since 1986, when, after several
years of activities in music and the visual arts, he became interested in this
subject. As Valentín Roma, curator of the anthological exhibition dedicated to
him in 2017 by La Virreina Centre de la Imatge in Barcelona, emphasizes, “in
Tres’ work, silence is a strategy of absolute emptying”. Tres’s silent “practices”,
his actions aimed at drawing attention to the exceptionality of silence in social
life, aimed, among other things, to evidence the noisy emptiness of the art
system. He himself postulated silence as a personal ascetic path through which
to reach the real and profound meaning of work in art, even when this entails –
as in his case – developing in a minority and therefore not very commercial
sphere.
